How to make your own tomato pizza topping

When cooking pizzas in your pizza oven, you’ll get the very best flavour from your pizza if you use a great tomato pizza topping. In our opinion, it’s worth taking the time to make your own tomato pizza sauce for use as the base topping. This simple recipe takes only a few minutes and can be frozen for future use.

Finely grate the onion and garlic cloves and set aside. Heat the olive oil in a medium saucepan using a medium heat and add the grated onion and garlic along with the oregano.

Sautee until the garlic and onion appears clear, then gradually stir in the tomato puree and passata sauce.

Reduce the heat to a low setting and simmer for 15 minutes stirring regularly. Set aside into a bowl and allow to cool. The topping is now ready to use.

INGREDIENTS –  Makes approximately 20 pizzas
White onion – 1
Garlic – 2 cloves
Olive Oil – 4 tablespoons
Dried oregano – 2 tablespoons
Tomato puree – 350g (12 oz)
Passata – 700g jar

If you don’t use all of your pizza topping then you can freeze it and use it when you fire your pizza oven up next!
