Marinara Pizza
A marinara pizza is probably the easiest pizza to make. All you need is pizza dough and a pizza sauce!
Ingredients
For the Dough:
- There are a few dough options available. You can make your own dough using the following recipes: Neapolitan ’00’ Dough Recipe or White Flour Dough Recipe.
- Alternatively you can use our pre-made Neapolitan dough balls or pre-made Gluten Free dough balls..
For the Sauce:
- 1 cup (240g) canned San Marzano tomatoes or any high-quality peeled tomatoes
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- Salt, to taste
For the Toppings:
- Fresh basil leaves (optional)
- A drizzle of extra virgin olive oil
Method
1. Prepare the Dough: Follow the instructions for your chosen recipe or allow your pre-made dough to proof.
2. Make the Sauce:
- Crush the canned tomatoes with your hands or a fork to create a slightly chunky consistency.
- Heat the olive oil in a small pan over medium heat, add the garlic, and sauté until fragrant (about 30 seconds). Do not let it brown.
- Add the tomatoes and oregano, season with salt, and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Set aside to cool.
3. Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C) or as high as it can go. Place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.
4. Shape the Dough:
- Punch down the risen dough and transfer it to a floured surface.
- Stretch the dough into a 12-inch circle, leaving the edges slightly thicker for the crust.
5. Assemble the Pizza:
- Spread a thin layer of the marinara sauce over the dough, leaving about 1 inch around the edges.
- Add fresh basil leaves if desired and drizzle with olive oil.
6. Bake the Pizza:
- Use a pizza peel to place your pizza into your pizza oven.
- Once your pizza is in the oven you will need to turn the pizza every 20-30 seconds.
- We recommend using a turning peel as it allows you to spin the pizza without having to remove it from your pizza oven.
- Pizza ovens cook pizza very quickly (usually 60-90 seconds) so make sure you keep an eye on it as it is cooking to prevent it from burning.
7. Serve:
- Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, slice, and serve immediately.
Enjoy your homemade marinara pizza with its pure and vibrant flavours! 🌿🍅
